Espaço cívico sob ataque! – Estamos com o povo de Mianmar e da Palestina na sua luta contra os sistemas opressivos

Nós, as organizações africanas de direitos humanos abaixo assinadas, condenamos veementemente os mais recentes desenvolvimentos que restringem o trabalho das organizações da sociedade civil na Palestina e executam activistas em Mianmar. Sob o manto das leis antiterroristas, as organizações de direitos humanos e os activistas da democracia tornaram-se o alvo de uma tentativa de silenciar o espaço cívico e a sua luta pelos direitos humanos.

A rusga dos escritórios de seis grupos palestinianos de direitos humanos pelas forças de segurança israelitas em 18 de Agosto de 2022 e a sua declaração ilegítima como grupos terroristas por Israel constitui um novo ponto baixo na tentativa do Estado de minar as organizações da sociedade civil que operam na Palestina. Em Mianmar, as execuções de dois activistas da democracia ilustram o total desrespeito pelos direitos humanos por parte da junta militar. Ambos os activistas da democracia foram condenados à morte com base em leis antiterroristas e executados no final de Julho de 2022. Desde o golpe em Myanmar, de 1 de Fevereiro de 2021, o regime militar opressivo prendeu 14.500 pessoas e matou mais de 2.000 pessoas. A tendência de minar e reprimir aqueles que se levantam contra as violações dos direitos humanos por um regime opressivo é terrível e insondável.

Enquanto organizações da sociedade civil africana, estamos profundamente preocupados com estes ataques profundamente alarmantes à sociedade civil. Este clima de medo gera repressão e apela a uma acção rápida a nível bilateral e multilateral. Como muitas das organizações abaixo assinadas compreendem e compreendem os riscos e ameaças diários que os nossos colegas em Mianmar e na Palestina enfrentam, estamos unidos com as pessoas e organizações na Palestina e em Mianmar.

Apelamos à comunidade internacional, às Nações Unidas e à União Africana para que apliquem todos os meios possíveis ao abrigo do direito internacional para acabar com a tirania dos opressores na Palestina e em Mianmar. Os responsáveis pelas violações dos direitos humanos e do direito internacional devem ser responsabilizados. O abuso das leis anti-terrorismo para restringir o espaço cívico deve cessar. O trabalho dos activistas, defensores dos direitos humanos e organizações da sociedade civil na Palestina e em Mianmar é indispensável para proporcionar um mínimo de protecção.

Apelamos ainda à comunidade internacional para uma acção orientada e determinada no sentido de restaurar a protecção do espaço cívico. Em tempos de caos e tirania, o sentido inato da sociedade civil em funcionamento de proteger os necessitados tornou-se um farol de justiça, responsabilidade e humanidade.
