This report was prompted by Malawian civil society organisations’ perception that there is a lack of will on the part of police and prosecution to investigate and prosecute cases related to sexual violence committed against women and girls living with disabilities. The researchers interviewed civil society organisations, police and prosecutors to form a preliminary analysis of the attrition of sexual offence cases in the criminal justice system. The report makes various recommendations to improve the criminal justice system’s response to sexual violence and to increase access to justice for women and girls with disabilities.
