promoting human rights and the rule of law in southern africa
SALC is supporting a case requesting judicial review of a decision by the Office of the Presidency to block access to documentation of violence in Zimbabwe following the 2008 elections. Former South African National Defence Force generals were appointed by then President Thabo Mbeki to report on violence perpetrated in the wake of Zimbabwe's 2008 elections. The Presidency opposed an application for access to that documentation by The Southern African Centre for Survivors of Torture and the South African History Archives. Founding papers have been filed with the North Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, and the parties await a hearing date.
