Statement: Southern Africa Civil Society Forum

SADC NGOs meet annually prior to the August SADC Summit to discuss pressing human rights and governance issues in Southern Africa. This year NGOs met in Johannesburg from the 8th to 9th August. Some of the issues on the agenda included the political and governance crises in Angola, DRC, Malawi, Madagascar and Zimbabwe. Delegates also discussed climate change challenges, upcoming elections in DRC, Zambia and Zimbabwe and the suspension of the SADC Tribunal. At the end of the meeting participants adopted the declaration above which will be submitted at the SADC Summit meeting on 17 August 2011.
